Pokfulam

Pokfulam is a large residential area at the west end of Hong Kong Island. The expansive area extends southwards from Mount Davis to the base of Mount Kellet at the South-West of the Island. This sparse area has a plethora of accommodation, from modern high rise apartment towers, older style apartment complexes to exclusive townhouses. With a majority of accommodation having either lush green views or open sea views overlooking the South China Sea.

Many expatriates rent or buy property in Pokfulam as the area offers an environment more similar to their home country. Residential areas in Pokfulam are far away from the noise and visual pollution of congested traffic and dense housing. It offers a more visually relaxing landscape, with rolling hills of greenery and sea views, a welcome sight from the concrete jungle. The apartments in Pokfulam are also generally well spaced apart and is larger given the sparse land area. The air quality, naturally is better in Pokfulam as well, one has no qualms about leaving a window open in Pokfulam, without the fear of dust, noise and other forms of pollution intruding into your living space.

Renting and Buying in Pokfulam has is its benefits but comes at a price as the commute to the business districts of Hong Kong can be less convenient. Pokfulam with no MTR and being separated from the business districts by the hills, this large residential area has relatively limited access so traffic can be a problem at times. Despite all this many still see Pokfulam as the only place to live and rent in Hong Kong.

Pokfulam has a history of being a place of first's, the Bauhinia Blakeana was first discovered here and has now become the flower emblem of Hong Kong. The vivid purple-mauve flower was discovered in 1908 by French priests on the Pokfulam coast and named after the governor at that time called Sir Henry Blake. Pokfulam was also the place where Hong Kong’s first dairy farm was opened in 1886 and is the area where the first reservoir in Hong Kong was built.
